BOTANY SYLLABUS UNIT 1

Microbes: Archaebacteria , Viruses : Nature ,Structure and Chemical composition . Bacteriophage . Bacteria-Cell structure, cell wall Composition ,Nutrition, Reproduction and economic importance of Bacteria. General account of Mycoplasma and Cyanobacteria (Nostoc ,Oscillatoria) and their economic importance.

ZOOLOGY:ANIMAL DIVERSITY-I

Animal diversity; general principles of taxonomy; concept of five-kingdom system; non-chordates: basis of classification, general characters and outline classification; characters and classification of phylum Protozoa up to class with examples; locomotion, nutrition, and parasitism in Protozoa

SYLLABUS UNIT 2

Algae : General Characterstics ,Classification and economic importance of Algae. Important features and life history of Volvox, Coleochaete, Chara, Vaucheria ,Ectocarpus and Polysiphonia
